Bfenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that stops the release of certain natural substances in the eye responsible for pain and inflammation.
Common adverse reactions include abnormal sensation in the eye, conjunctival hyperemia, eye irritation, pain, pruritus, redness, headache, and iritis, reported in 2-7% of patients.
Bfenac is indicated for treating postoperative inflammation and reducing ocular pain following cataract extraction.
Bromfenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), inhibits cyclooxygenase 1 and 2, thereby blocking prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins play a role in intraocular inflammation, causing disruption of the blood-aqueous humor barrier, vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, leukocytosis, and elevated intraocular pressure.
Increased potential for healing problems with concomitant ophthalmic corticosteroids.
Bromfenac ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy is justified only if the benefits outweigh the risks. Caution is advised during nursing.
Topical NSAIDs may slow healing, especially when used concurrently with topical steroids. Caution is advised in patients with bleeding tendencies or using medications affecting bleeding time. Avoid administering Bfenac while wearing contact lenses. The solution contains Sodium Sulfite, which may trigger allergic reactions.
Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and light. Use within 4 weeks after opening.
